paper and felt art show @ cupcake royale

It's been a busy couple of weeks preparing for my art showcase at Cupcake Royale in Bellevue. (Yup, that is the news I was waiting to share! I am having my first-ever art show!) With a lot of help from my friend Hannah who curates monthly (and bi-monthly) shows at the downtown Bellevue cupcake/coffeehouse and her friend, Drew and his trusty extension ladder we stayed up to the wee hours of the night hanging paper flowers, felt art, and garlands. If you've ever been to the shop, you know how high those vaulted ceilings are! (The building is an old IHOP - recognize the chalet-style?)

Cupcake Royale on Bellevue Way - This is what the shop looked like before we got started. I'll post some after photos soon or better yet, you can come down to the shop!

It was exciting to see how all the pieces I have created over the last several weeks have come together in the space. As you might gather - if you have seen the newly decorated shop, I am mad about garlands. I created 3 paper ones, 2 felt buntings, 2 felted garlands on yarn, 1 felt ball garland on baker's twine, 1 yarn pom pom garland and 2 smaller ones made of vintage book paper. I don't know about you, but there's something about that repetition of hand-made goodies on a string that makes me happy.
One of my felted wool garlands and paper flower centerpieces that are now in the shop.
In addition to the garlands and paper flowers, I created some original felt art framed in embroidery hoops. Hand-stitched and cut. They nestle nicely between the diamond-paned windows.
Cupcakes + and ice cream cone. What's sweeter than that? Maybe those button cherries.
All the pieces in the shop will be on sale during the show's duration (now until the end of September) and later in my Etsy shop. If you are interested in a particular piece, please let me know! I can also work with you to create custom pieces (say, personalized with your  name or using one of your favorite things or sayings).
My business cards displayed in the shop. Pick up a few for your friends.

So that's a quick preview of my show. I will be having an artist reception the first Friday of September, so please stay tuned for details on that. I will be doing a little bit of tweaking before then and have more pieces to share. All are welcome to attend, so please mark your calendar if you want to check it out.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!
